Drying Coffee

Lake Atitlan's low latitude and high altitude make the region ideal for premium coffee production.
Please take a moment to visit at our Lake Atitlan Coffee page.

Coffee production employs hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans. Most work in labor intensive tasks such as picking the coffee bean by hand or processing the coffee to make it ready for export.

The men above are drying the coffee in the sun. They walk back and forth, two pulling one pushing, turning the beans so that it dries evenly.

Producing top quality coffee, such as that grown in the highlands of Guatemala, demands great care, experience and a lot of work.

During the months of September through December you will often see workers drying coffee on concrete terraces throughout the coffee producing areas of Guatemala.

10% of sales of Café Atitlán goes to goes to social and environmental projects around the lake and it supports the local economy.
